Common Sense REBORN Devotion

August 28

1Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the reign of King Herod.  About that time some wise men from eastern lands arrived in Jerusalem, asking, 2“Where is the newborn king of the Jews?  We saw his star as it rose, and we have come to worship him.”  (Matthew 2:1-2, Life Application Study Bible)

Happy Monday y’all!  I pray this week brings you the opportunity to bless many and share the love and wisdom of Jesus Christ to at least one person in the next few days.  I have begun to read the New Testament in my 9-month reading plan.  I am taking my time reading through the Life Application Study Bible‘s interpretation of the NT, as they have a bunch of great insight.  It is so good, I am going to share what the authors wrote in reference to Matthew Chapter 2, verses 1 and 2.

The wise men traveled many hundreds of miles to see the king of the Jews.  When they finally found him, they responded with joy, worship, and gifts.  This is so different from the approach people often take today.  We expect God to come looking for us, explain himself, prove who he is, and give us gifts.  But those who are wise still seek and worship Jesus today not for what they can get from him but for who he is.  God reveals himself to those who seek him and rewards them with faith.”  (Life Application Study Bible pg. 1574, subparagraph 2)

Are you seeking Jesus for Him to give you rewards?  Or are you seeking Him knowing that just living in His shadow is THE reward?

This new track by Mrs. Brooke Ligertwood is a great anthem to remind us to all keep a healthy “Fear of God” to keep us all safe from the enemies attack, and remind us that the gift has already come, and available to all of us.
