Common Sense REBORN Devotion

June 23

9The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world.  10He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him.  (John 1:9-10, The Jesus Bible)

Time.  It slips through our hands.  It is the one thing you lose and you can never get back.  It has become our most precious resource, one that we do nothing to protect.  We live our lives like we have endless time to right the wrongs we have enacted in this world, but we allow the sun to rise and set on thousands of opportunities everyday as we stay trapped in an era of distractions.

Last weekend, my family and I were down in Florida for Father’s Day. It was the first weekend I have had off in three months.  We had a busy schedule as we poured into spending time with family and friends.  Then in a blink of an eye, we were heading back home.  We were battling against time that whole weekend.  Every morning I attempted to wake up before my kids to put those three posts together last week, but my son is notorious for waking up early every morning, so each post was rushed.  Even as I write this, I am battling the clock.  My kids are home, I need to spend every waking minute with them before they disappear outside playing with all the neighborhood kiddos.  The baby is crawling around, begging for someone to hold her.  The time I wish I had is never attainable, so I must strive to attain all I can with the limited time I have.

I feel like we are running out of time.  Jesus is coming back in this lifetime.  I think many around the world are going to be surprised with the expectation Jesus had for us as His disciples.  I mean, here we are 2,000 years after His miraculous work here on Earth, and we are still having to fight the battle of just getting people to read the Holy Word of God.  As Steve Weatherford often puts when he preaches: what are you doing with your God-given talents, and with your time here on earth?

I had the privilege this weekend to spend some face-to-face time with my dear friend who I have mentioned many times on this blog.  This is the mighty man who was the first person Steve Weatherford baptized at his new home in Texas.  Well, listening to my friend’s story, the way he weaves in praise for Jesus in every word he speaks, this made me realize that I am operating at the JV level.  I need to step up my game and get to a Varsity level of faith, or strive to take my love of Jesus to a professional level.  There was no question for anyone in the room listening to my friend speak where he draws his strength from.  I can not wait for the day he is ready to share his story with the world.  It is a true testament of the redeeming power of Christ and the promise of a better tomorrow.

I say all this in the hopes you realize how fleeting your time here on Earth is.  We need to all be striving to step up our level of living out our faith, of showing the world that we are an accurate depiction of the truth, the way, and the life of Jesus Christ.  There is much work to do to bring the light of the world back into this broken culture.  Take control of your time here on Earth, and make the most of all the opportunities God has gifted you with. Get out and do the work.

Here is some great new music from Beckah Shae to keep you motivated and focused for the Good Work ahead.
