Common Sense REBORN Devotion

16But Jesus called the children to him and said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.  17Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.”  (Luke 18:16-17, The Jesus Bible)

Blessed morning to you all.  I hope you all are having a wonderful summer.  It is starting to heat up here in Savannah.  My week started with two extremely busy days working the streets with Savannah PD.  On Tuesday, I had my busiest day in the three years I have worked on the job:  I had to write nine reports and complete a four-car accident investigation, all of which I did not start until four hours AFTER I was supposed to get off of work.  Needless to say, I got home in the middle of the night, laid my head down, closed my eyes, and BAM, my alarm was going off and I was up a few hours later.  But despite only having minimal sleep, what I woke up for on Wednesday brought me back out of the darkness and into the light.

Yesterday, today, and tomorrow, I am participating in the massive volunteer efforts of putting a summer “Kids Camp” together with our local church, Compassion Christian.  Let me tell you this, if you ever think the world is beyond the point of rescue, if there is no way to repair this broken society, just surround yourself with the joy, wonder, and innocence of little children.  See their childlike faith, the unquestionable love they have for a God they cannot see, the way they shout and dance for Jesus.  I was privileged to be a witness to that yesterday.

As I stood watching these wonderful little children filled with absolute joy, I was reminded of the verse “for where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.”  Well, as I was keeping a watchful eye on over FOUR HUNDRED precious children, I could feel the presence of the Holy Spirit hovering over that amazing church.

I was tasked with providing “security” to the outer perimeter of the back area where the church had rented seven of the biggest inflatable water slides for these kids to have a midweek, super-fun day.  I was to keep an eye out for any kid that might make a run for the woodline, and to ensure no unwelcome guests did not make an appearance.  Obviously, in this wicked world, a gathering of so many little children could be an easy target for the devil to push his agenda onto unsuspecting, unprepared individuals.  But the church did not need me yesterday.  The Holy Spirit was there looking over this beautiful group of eager kids, I could feel it in the wind. That spirit was tangible yesterday, and being a part of it blessed my whole day.

I have much more to write, but I am pressed for time.  I will be back on here tomorrow, but in the meantime, I want you all to put this new song by Sanctus Real on repeat in whatever source you get your music from.  “Dare to Hope” has been on a constant loop in my car, on my phone, in the background as I wrote this post.  Absolute perfection on this track, “Our God still carries the weight of this broken world.”  I dare to hope that revival is in the air, and I dare you to hope as well.
